If you have an under eye wrinkle, you may have spent too much time in the sun over the years, without proper protection. Of course, you might not be concerned about what caused the problem. You might just want to know how to fix it. Here’s a look at your options.
Hyaluronic Acid Injections
Hyaluronic acid is a compound naturally present in the skin and other parts of the body, which makes it ideal for an injectable according to dermatologists and cosmetic surgeons. There is less risk of allergic reactions or the other complications that accompany Botox and collagen injections.
Typically hyaluronic acid is injected to stretch out medium to deep facial creases, such as the ones that sometimes form between the corners of the mouth and the bottom of the nose. That is actually the only FDA-approved use for the injection, but doctors are using it for other purposes.
If the area beneath the eyes seems ‘hollowed out’, a hyaluronic acid injection can be used to temporarily fill the area in. This should fix an under eye wrinkle, but be warned.
The skin beneath the eyes is thinner and more delicate than on any other part of the face. The area is ‘complication-prone’. If you decided to try this treatment, find an ophthalmic surgeon that specializes in cosmetic procedures. The more experienced the doctor, the less likely you are to have complications. In the wrong hands, a shot around the eyes can cause blindness.
Anti-wrinkle Creams
Anti-wrinkle creams may be effective on any part of the face, especially if combined with other efforts, such as a healthy diet and lifestyle. For a deep under eye wrinkle, the most effective regimen is to use a day cream, an under-eye gel and a night cream.
The area should be cleansed very gently, which often means using a non-waterproof makeup that is easier to remove. If you normally shower in the morning and wash your face to remove makeup at night, it is particularly important to use a nourishing night cream.
The skin beneath the eyes is only about a half millimeter thick. Other parts of the face are four times as thick. Scrubbing or exfoliating might be beneficial on the thicker areas, but not beneath the eyes. If you could avoid cleansing the area completely, you would probably be better off. But, that’s hard to do.
So to treat an under eye wrinkle, cleanse the area very gently. Avoid pulling the skin or rubbing too hard. Apply an under-eye gel containing protein peptides, coenzyme Q10 and Canadian Brown Algae.
Cover that and the rest of your face with an active day cream containing grape seed oil, Functional Keratin and coenzyme Q10. Then apply your makeup. After removing your makeup at night, apply a night cream containing Shea butter and avocado oil.
If you do a little comparative shopping, you will find that many of the creams on the market contain hyaluronic acid. When applied topically, that will not help reduce an under eye wrinkle. You might want to learn why.
